What the exhibitors, students, and educators have been sayingStudent at Clark Atlanta speaks about Black College Expo"Dear National College Resources/ Black College Expo: For as long as I can remember, I have always been taught that education is the key to success. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the National College Resources for everything the organization has done for me. I was a scholarship recipient at the Black College Expo in New York in 2007. When I received the notification stating that I would receive the scholarship, I was ecstatic. The award notification came at a pleasant time because I was unsure of how I would make satisfactory financial arrangements to attend college. As a student who has benefitted from NCR programs, I am proud to share that I will be graduating with honors from Morgan State University in May 2012. I am a member of the University's Honors Program and have been awarded a scholarship that covers 75% of the necessary aid to complete my undergraduate studies. Some of my recent accomplishments include completing four internships with major media companies such as: Black Entertainment Television, Inc., 107.5 WBLS-NY, 98.7 WRKS-NY, and EgyptSaidSo.com. Working with these companies have opened many doors for me such as being able to travel to LA and volunteering for the 2011 BET Awards, and to New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival, as well as countless other opportunities. I am currently actively seeking the perfect Graduate Program to enroll in next fall! I am considering attending Metropolitan College of New York to get my MBA in Media Management. Again, I would like to thank the National College Resources for its commitment to education and to making a major impact on my life as well as many other students. The programs NCR provide are necessary and have proven to truly make a difference." "Dear Scholarship Committee: Thank so much you so much for the being chosen the first place winner of a $7,500 scholarship. Your generosity allowed me to be able to attend an HBCU in the fall. I will be attending Tennessee State University and majoring in business. Lastly, I interned at Conoco Phillip oil refinery this summer. Thank you Black College Expo for giving me leads to summer internships. Thank you for all you do to help students get to college."
"Hello Ms. Price, Brandon Williams "Dear National College Resources: I am writing you to let you know how much we, my son and I, appreciate National College Resources Foundation/Black College Expo and your services. I want you to know that your work is not in vain. I am a proud parent of a student you helped get into college and also helped him understand the importance of doing his best. At first my son Jeromie was just settling for "C's" but one of your staff members told him how disappointed she was that he was settling and encouraged him to strive for the best and earn "A's". That care and concern she showed him resonated so deeply with him that he turned his attitude around and starting getting "A's" in college. As a result, performed well in college as just got accepted into Harvard Medical School. He graduates in June from Tuskegee University and will go on to Harvard Medical School thanks to National College Resources Foundation/Black College Expo, Jeromie Humphrey is on his way to one day becoming a successful doctor. Thank you and know we appreciate all that you do for our community." Sincerely,
"Dear College Expo, Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. As I indicated over the phone, I attended your seminar in LA on, "how to pay for college." If possible, I'd like to get in touch with your speaker from Wells Fargo or a representative. Their handouts and illustrations drove home the importance of starting early. And we are ready!" Carlos, Los Angeles
"Hello Team, Your event was excellent. I loved the location! Thank you for your contributions, time and talents on Saturday for a successful Obama booth at the Black College Expo. We collected 66 youth names and 68 adult (18+ and eligible to vote) names. A total of 134 names. We also registered 5 voters. The Youth were really excited about Obama!"
"Dear Theresa: Following Atlanta's expo we received a lot of inquiries asking for help with financial aid and college prep in particular. We welcome this because we feel particularly prepared to share our expertise and experience with families who may be going through this process for the first time. We are also very impressed with your programs and the outstanding ability to attract so many African American students and parents from diverse backgrounds. I was particularly touched by a single parent I met, back in LA who was confined to a wheel chair, who had struggled and saved to send her daughter to a good college. It was my pleasure to speak with her and her daughter. We also were able to give away 4 I-Pods to unsuspecting participants and the feed back has been wonderful".
"Dear College Expo: Thanks again for having us.This really is one of our best events of the year. We were able to reach many young people with the important message about HIV/AIDS prevention and education"
"Theresa, I just wanted to let you know that it has truly been a blessing meeting you. I (and my team) had a great time on Saturday. We talked to hundreds of students and parents about our programs – it was awesome! The response we received was overwhelmingly positive. All that said I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you!" "Dear College Expo: I'd like to thank you Ms. Price and Ms. Plus for this year's BCE NYC. The event was a tremendous success and it reflects the BCE's unwavering commitment to education and community development. It was truly a pleasure to work with both of you and the Black College Expo. My staff and I enjoyed the event and, because of the success that we had, we wish to continue to participate in your national tour. In summary, Houston Academics supports your work and we look forward to a long and lasting business relationship."
"Dear Ms. Price, Thank you for working with me and my niece utilizing Smart College Strategies regarding my niece's college pursuits. The method and process as it relates to assisting one in selecting a college is outstanding. It clearly defined how the process must include the following two concepts, financial affordability and educational opportunities. My niece is a senior in a Chicago Public High School, she and our family have always been very interested in her attending college. However, we really did not understand the entire process, nor did we have the time to dedicate to ensuring her success. Smart College Strategies has provided the professional assurance we require. By attending the various Smart College Strategies seminars at the Black College Expo held in Chicago this year, as well as attending the Webinar session in August, we feel very knowledgeable, informed and confident that we will be successful in achieving our goal of securing the best college as it pertains to our needs.Thank you again for providing us with so many possibilities."
"Dear Black College Expo,
"Really I am what the expo helps- to offer young students like me to realize that college is the way and that there are ways to pay for college. Honestly there are many students that come to the expo not expecting anything to happen but many of them find that they can not only get in on the spot but can also find ways to finance college. So I would like to say Thank You from not only myself but all the other college students that have benefited from all your help and the help of the Black College Expo."
"Dear College Expo: Winning the First Place $10,000 Wells Fargo Scholarship at The College Expo is an experience I will never forget. Aside from getting the financial assistance I needed to attend and graduate from a university; the experience taught me to have confidence and believe that I could accomplish any goal I set for myself. Since winning the scholarship back in 2004 I have graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications from Humboldt State University and currently work as a Language Program Developer and English Teacher for the Korean Ministry of Education in Seoul, Korea"
